St John's Eve bonfires

On the night of 23 to 24 June the summer solstice is celebrated with bonfires, fire and open-air dances across the island. In Haría, part of its patronal festivities of St John the Baptist, the signature moment is the burning of Don Facundo, a huge cardboard figure, with a fire dance, fireworks and a verbena; the Haría Awards are also handed out that day. Elsewhere on the island bonfires are lit on beaches and squares.
