Holy Week brings together processions, pasos, bands and brotherhoods across the island. Teguise, the former capital, is its spiritual heart, with devotion to the Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz —a polychrome 17th-century carving— and its Way of the Cross through cobbled streets; in Arrecife the blessing of palms and the Palm Sunday 'Burrita' procession stand out. As a liturgical observance, the dates change every year.
