Arrecife Carnival

The capital's carnival is one of the oldest in the archipelago, blending tradition, satire and street participation: murga singing troupes, comparsas, queen and drag galas, and the big coso parade. A defining feature is the seafaring Los Buches parade, rooted in the fishing community, which opens the coso. It all wraps up with the Burial of the Sardine, a mock funeral procession to the coast where the sardine is burned. Dates shift every year with Lent.
