Corpus Christi – Salt Carpets (Haría)

For Corpus Christi, neighbours, community groups, associations and schools spend the morning laying carpets of dyed salt — sometimes mixed with flowers or sawdust — along Calle Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. In the afternoon the Corpus Mass and the procession of the Blessed Sacrament move over the carpets, gradually undoing them in an act of popular devotion. The date shifts each year, tied to the Easter calendar.
