San Juan Bautista Patron Festival (Haría)

The patron-saint festival of Haría town honours St John the Baptist, blending religious ceremony — Mass and procession on 24 June from the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación — with the age-old bonfires of San Juan. Its most striking moment is the Noche del Fuego on the eve of the feast: the burning of Facundo, a life-size rag figure (a custom introduced in 1964), and the Fire Dance of the Diablos de Haría, who leap over the embers to the beat of drums. A folk pilgrimage, the Malpaís de la Corona folklore festival, open-air dances and the Haría Awards round out the celebration.
