San Bartolomé Carnival

The municipality's Carnival is built each year around a different theme and comes alive both in the old town of San Bartolomé and in Playa Honda. Its signature moments include the opening gala with the election of the carnival queen and drag queen, children's costume contests, street parades with 'murga' comedy choirs and dance troupes, and open-air dances with live bands. It all closes with the Entierro del Guachinango, a mock funeral parade along the Playa Honda seafront that bids farewell to the festivities.
