Corpus Christi and Salt Carpets

Celebration of Corpus Christi in which the streets along the procession route are adorned with carpets made of brightly dyed sea salt, together with flowers, sand or sawdust, forming religious and symbolic patterns on the ground. The carpets are made collectively in Plaza de San Roque in the preceding days and the celebration culminates in the procession that passes over them. It is a highly distinctive popular tradition of Lanzarote, with roots dating back to the early 20th century.
