Virgen del Carmen Festival (Puerto del Carmen)

The municipality's great seafaring festival and the most popular of the summer, honouring the Virgen del Carmen, patron of the sea, fishermen and sailors, in the fishing quarter of La Tiñosa. Its highlights are the maritime procession, in which the image travels along the coastal waters escorted by dozens of decorated boats leaving from the harbour, and the land procession through the village streets. The programme includes streets dressed with traditional paper bunting, the opening address (pregón), sung masses by the Coral Marina choir, open-air dances and many festive, sporting and family events.
