San Marcial del Rubicón Festival (Femés)

A festival in honour of San Marcial del Rubicón, Lanzarote's historic patron, whose devotion dates back to the old bishopric of Rubicón and the 1404 papal bull that founded the first city in the archipelago. Every year pilgrims and devotees climb up to Femés to renew their promises. The main day, 7 July, features the solemn Mass and the procession accompanied by the Municipal Band, with a welcome from folk ensembles; the programme blends religious ceremonies, Canarian folklore, open-air dances, food contests, sport and comedy.
