Virgen del Carmen Festival in Valterra

Held in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron of sailors, in the Valterra fishing quarter next to Puerto Naos and the Charco de San Ginés. The centrepiece is the maritime procession: the statue is carried aboard a boat to sail along the coast, escorted by a flotilla of decorated fishing vessels, alongside a procession on land. The programme also brings a pregón (opening speech), giant carnival figures, a popular sardine barbecue, open-air dances and children's activities.
