La Pardela Festival (El Golfo)

The popular festivities of the fishing village of El Golfo, known as 'La Pardela' (after the Cory's shearwater, a seabird of the island's coasts). Festive rather than religious in character, they include table-game tournaments, five-a-side football and children's gymkhanas, the Chinchorro and Salitre folk festival, the comedy Gala de La Pardela and, as a finale, the Chalanería (samba drumming, piñata, water party and communal barbecue). A coastal clean-up day is usually part of the programme.
