Fiestas of San Marcial del Rubicón, historic patron of Lanzarote

San Marcial del Rubicón is the historic patron of Lanzarote, and his fiesta, rooted in the 1404 papal bull that authorised the creation of the city and bishopric of Rubicón, is regarded as the oldest in the island and the Canaries. On 7 July, the main day, Femés holds a solemn Mass and the procession of the saint's image, accompanied by the municipal band and folk groups. Through the week come religious ceremonies, folk music, cooking contests, workshops, tastings and open-air dances.
